UK weather forecast: Britain hotter than Lanzarote as temperatures soar to 26C today before plummeting on Sunday – The Sun

BANK holiday Britain was warmer than the south of France yesterday. And today we are set to swelter in a heatwave hotter than Lanzarote.

But people should make the most of it as the temperature is set to plummet tomorrow.

St James’s Park in central London recorded 24.3C (75.7F) yesterday. In Nice, on the French Riviera, the mercury only reached 23C (73.4F).

People enjoyed the sun at beaches including in Bournemouth and Weymouth. The heatwave has swept in from Spain and today is expected to hit 26C (78.8F), hotter than Lanzarote in the Canary Islands.

Last month, Cornwall also saw a high of 26C.

But tonight could see the greatest ever drop in overnight temperature as a cold front means it could tumble to as low as 2C (35.6F) in some parts of the UK.

The Met Office’s John Griffiths said: “Saturday will get off to a fine and dry start for most. Large swathes will be dry and sunny.

“The cold front will bring cloud and outbreaks of rain and strong winds.

“It’ll be time to pack the shorts away and get the fleeces out. Hopefully people will be able to enjoy the weather, sensibly, before it takes a cold turn.”

The glorious weather comes days after a blooming flower moon was seen across Britain, the last supermoon of the year.
