Almost 60,000 students will receive their VCE results on Monday, ending a nerve-racking wait since the end of exams last month.
This year, 57,601 students graduate with their VCE, a completion rate of 97.4 per cent.

That number includes 51,214 who completed traditional VCE, and 6387 VCE vocational major students – 11.1 per cent of the total. Just over 3000 students will be awarded the VCE Baccalaureate.
There are 1066 more students receiving an ATAR in 2023 compared to last year, with 45,239 students nervously awaiting the ranking.
Thirty-nine students achieved the highest possible rank of 99.95, with the average ATAR for this year’s cohort being 69.41, a slight decrease from 2022.
The class of 2023 chose 22,192 unique combinations of VCE subjects that were used in ATAR calculations this year. The most popular subject combination – used by 283 students – comprised of English, biology, health and human development, general mathematics and psychology.
VCE by the numbers
- 45,239 students received an ATAR (44,173 last year)
- 39 students received an ATAR of 99.95 (same as last year), including 30 males (31 last year) and nine females (eight last year)
- The average ATAR overall is 69.41 (70.33 last year), 70.23 for females (71.23 last year) and 68.43 for males (69.30 last year)
- 22,912 unique combinations of VCE studies were used for ATARs (21,936 last year). The most common subject combination for 2023 (used by 283 students) was English, biology, health and human development, general mathematics and psychology
- 5744 ATAR calculations included at least one VET study
- 538 ATAR calculations included a higher education study
More than 240,000 study scores have been issued to students. Of those, 21,754 study scores were 40 or above (8.8 per cent) and 656 study scores were the maximum of 50 (0.3 per cent).
Results released on Monday include those for students who do not receive an ATAR, including those studying the VCE vocational major or electing to take an unscored VCE.
Education Minister Ben Carroll congratulated all VCE students.
“Getting through year 12 is not for the faint-hearted – but it’s important to remember that this is only one step in your life journey,” he said.
“There have never been more choices available such as university, TAFE, traineeships, and work.”
