However, after Savile’s horrific crimes were exposed, undertakers removed the £4,000 stone in the dead of night, and it was sent to landfill.

In 2016, a campaign to have the body of Jimmy Savile exhumed and cremated was stopped in its tracks as no one was prepared to pay the £20,000 cost.

Lawyers revealed Savile’s £4 million legacy had been drained by legal bills and compensation costs, or set aside for donations.

As a result, the body has been left in a now unmarked plot in Woodlands Cemetery, Scarborough.

Savile’s nephew Guy Marsden previously said: "It should have been done before his money ran out. I thought it was the end of it when they took the stone away but because he is still buried there it is like the place is cursed.

"Who would want their kids buried somewhere near him? If they want to dig him up and burn him, I could not care less."

Locals were left furious with that there was no funding available to remove his body – and as a result, some even changed their own funeral plans to avoid being laid to rest near Savile.

At the time of the decision to stop the campaign, Greg who has a relative buried in the same corner said: ‘’Savile should not be buried here with all the respectable people."
