Police attended the location and a woman was found dead in a commercial kitchen area.
A person of interest to police, a 29-year-old man, has been taken into custody and has been transported to hospital under police guard.
The zoo has been closed but police do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the public at this time.
In a message to zoo staff, employees were told a “critical incident” had occurred at the zoo.
“The incident has left many of our staff deeply shocked and traumatised. In order to help those involved process the events, we have organised trauma counselling,” the message said.
The zoo has been contacted for comment.
More to come.
