Amanda Abbington’s fiancé shares cryptic message hours before she quit Strictly

Amanda Abbington's fiancé Jonathan Goodwin shared a cryptic message hours before she 'quit' Strictly Come Dancing.

News emerged on Monday, 23 October, that the 49 year old Sherlock actress has left the show after becoming 'fed up', according to The Daily Star.

Amanda who was partnered with Giovanni Pernice, 33, pulled out of the last live show, due to a mystery 'medical reason'.

And her fiancé Jonathan Goodwin, a retired escapologist and daredevil who appeared on Britain's Got Talent in 2021, took to Instagram which appeared to allude to mental health.

He shared a mirror selfie to his Instagram stories where he could be seen wearing a black jumper and a pair of blue jeans.

Over the top of the snap, he wrote: "We can be so hard on ourselves…be our own worst critics…

"But before you judge yourself… make sure your mirror is clean."

Reports of Amanda quitting Strictly come after the actress didn't perform live on Saturday, alongside the other celebrities on the show, due to a mystery 'medical reason'.

Her absence was addressed at the beginning of Saturday night's show (October 21) as presenter Claudia Winkleman said: “Now as you may have noticed, Amanda and Giovanni are missing from the lineup. Due to medical reasons Amanda is unable to perform this week."

Claudia continued: "Strictly Come Dancing protocols mean that all being well, Amanda and Giovanni will return the following week. Amanda we hope you get well soon my love, sending you all the best wishes!"

Rumours of a rift between Amanda and her partner Giovanni have been swirling for the past few weeks, however, they appeared to put those whispers to bed during a recent appearance on Strictly spin-off show It Takes Two.

Host Janette Manrara said: "It honestly looks like you two are having the best time in rehearsals, getting along like a house on fire in rehearsals right?"

Amanda agreed: "Yeah we are, we are! We do and we laugh a lot, we have the same sense of humour which is really important. So we'll come out, work hard, and then we just laugh don't we."

OK! contacted Amanda's reps for comment and the BBC declined to comment.

Amanda and Jonathan have been dating since 2021, and they got engaged on their very first date in Vienna, after speaking on the phone for a month when Jonathan was living in Las Vegas and Amanda in the UK.

She previously told The Guardian: “I was filming in Vienna and had a little downtime.

“I was like a giddy schoolgirl, constantly messaging him while he was at work."

At the end of August, Jonathan visited Vienna to meet Amanda in person for the first time. “By this time, I knew that I was going to ask her to marry me. I had been planning it already, even though we’d only been talking for a month," he explained.
