Former Celebrity Big Brother star, Nicola McLean, has opened up about the behind-the-scenes reality of the nominations process on the popular reality show. Speaking exclusively to the Daily Star, Nicola provided insight into the challenges of putting up her fellow celebrities for eviction.
Nicola, a two-time participant on the show, explained nominations were particularly challenging for her due to her personality. She revealed: "I'm such a funny personality because although I don't really give a f*** what people think of me, I do care about hurting people's feelings – unless I don't like you."
Live nominations, according to Nicola, presented a real dilemma, as she hated doing it unless she genuinely disliked someone. She elaborated: "If it was all the people that I really liked, I hated doing it. Yeah, I'm not good at that sort of stuff."
Nicola also shed light on the extended process of nominations that viewers might not realise. She mentioned that what audiences see is only a short clip, but the actual nominations process can be quite lengthy.
"They make you sit in there for hours," she said. "They want you to say something that will make you look mean. So, then you just say whatever you think they want to hear because you just want to get out of that diary room."
Despite the anxiety-inducing nature of live nominations, Nicola found it to be one of the most fun experiences of her life. She described it as a rollercoaster of highs and lows.
This week's Big Brother nominations certainly proved dramatic, with Hallie and Yinrun both being left in tears following the announcement.
This week's eviction nominees include Dylan, Hallie, and Trish. Trish and Hallie initially had five nominations each, while Dylan received four nominations.
However, a twist unfolded when Yinrun discussed her nominations with Henry. Her nominations were subsequently revoked, reducing Hallie's total to four and adding Dylan to the list of potential evictees.
Yinrun was overcome with tears upon discovering she was the rule breaker, feeling guilty about Trish facing the public vote. Little did she know that this outcome would have occurred with or without her rule break.
Following the nomination announcement, Hallie found herself in tears in the bedroom, where Kerry comforted her. Later, in the Diary Room, Hallie expressed her reluctance to leave the house, feeling that there's still more of her story to be told.
In another part of the episode, Yinrun was placed in "jail," a development that upset many viewers. They expressed their dissatisfaction on X, formerly known as Twitter, and criticised Big Brother's treatment of the beloved housemate.
One wrote: "I nominate big brother for making Yinrun cry [two laughing emojis.]"
"Big Brother’s tone to Yinrun is disgusting #BBUK," added another, while a third penned: "NO WHO IS BIG BROTHER TALKING TO YINRUN LIKE THAT IM LIVID #BBUK."
And a fourth added: "I f***ing hate Big Brother, my Yinrun did nothing wrong #BBUK."
