Holly Willoughby ‘really happy’ ‘horrified’ Phillip Schofield reached out after kidnap ordeal

Phillip Schofield has reached out to his former best pal Holly Willoughby, following news of an alleged plot to kidnap and murder her.

The ex-This Morning co-presenters, who worked together on the show for 14 years, have been estranged since his dramatic departure from the ITV programme in May. But Phil has now offered his support to the 42 year old, after he was "horrified" by the allegations about a threat to kidnap her.

Phil's "welcomed" olive branch comes after security guard Gavin Plumb was charged with soliciting a US hitman to commit murder, and incitement to commit kidnap.

Speaking to the Mirror, a source said Holly, who is currently on indefinite leave from the show, was "really happy" to hear from former friend Phil, 61.

They added, "Holly and Phil's friendship was so close before the events of this year. Phil's decision to reach out, and the welcome it has been received with by Holly, shows that there is still a bond there.

“The hope is they can regain some of the ground lost, and support each other again.”

Another source said Phil was "absolutely horrified to hear she had been allegedly targeted in such a sickening way".

"He wanted her to know he was thinking of her and her family. They've so much history, and this is something you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy," they added.

A third source remarked that mum-of-three Holly is “getting through things hour by hour", and that "her absolute priority is her own safety and that of her family – who are supporting her through this incredibly difficult time".

On Friday 6 October, Chelmsford Magistrates' Court heard how Plumb had "weapons" in his possession. He had also compiled a "restraint kit" in his alleged aim to kidnap Holly and contacted a hitman based in America with a "detailed plan". District Judge Caroline Dickson told him, “This is a really serious allegation.”

The case was sent to Chelmsford Crown Court and is due to be heard on Friday 3 November.

The relationship between Holly and former telly husband Phil fell apart earlier this year, when Phil admitted to an affair with a young This Morning runner. He soon stepped down from the programme, apologising to his colleagues, friends and family for the “unwise but not illegal” affair.

Holly showed her hurt in an Instagram post at the time, writing, “When reports of this relationship first surfaced, I asked Phil if it was true and was told it was not. It’s been very hurtful to now find out this was a lie.”
