Kelly Clarkson explains how she got Steve Martin to play on I Hate Love
Kelly Clarkson lifted the lid on her love life as she made a candid admission regarding her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock after their recent divorce.
The singer revealed she had only been in love with Blackstock, with whom she shares son Remington, 7, and daughter River, 9.
During her appearance on the during the September 22 episode of The New Yorker Radio Hour podcast, Clarkson made the admission while discussing why love had been a “hard go” for her.
She said: “I’ve always been, since I was a kid, this person [that] if the reality is not great, I will create it. If your home life isn’t great, you will create something in your head to … deal.”
The former American Idol winner added: “Love has been a hard go for me. Whether it’s parents or friendships even, sometimes.”

She then admitted: “I’ve only been in love, love like that, with my ex. But it doesn’t seem to work out so great for me. Then you have to go, ‘What’s wrong with me at some point?’”
Clarkson has been outspoken about her divorce, revealing she was forced to cancel work after things got “real bad” in the midst of her separation.
The TV host appeared on an episode of the Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend podcast back in June to promote the release of her album, Chemistry.
Apart from promoting her new album, which was inspired by her difficult breakup, Kelly bared all when it came to her “horrendous” divorce from Blackstock.
The Miss Independent singer recalled how she felt “alone” and “isolated” while dealing with her public divorce.

Speaking to host Conan in front of a live audience, Kelly explained: “Divorce, in general, is hard. Separation, grief, loss, all of that is hard. I think the worst part is when you feel alone.”
Clarkson went on to admit that the divorce affected her mental health while also detailing the challenges of balancing her personal troubles and work responsibilities during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“I would be like truth, completely balling right before we would be shooting and be like, ‘how do I fix this?’…It’s hard to keep smiling,” before confessing that she was forced to cancel work.
The Voice coach recalled: “There was one time – I never cancel, I’m not that person – and I was like, I can’t actually fix this.
“I looked like, oh God, put her in a jacket. It was real bad. I was really sad, so we had to cancel one day,” she added.
