Piers Morgan praises Top Gear’s Freddie Flintoff as he makes first appearance since horror crash

Piers Morgan publicly praised Top Gear's Freddie Flintoff after he was pictured for the first time since his horror crash during an accident while filming for Top Gear.

While filming the BBC show in December, Freddie, 45, was rushed to hospital after he sustained a number of injuries on his face as well as broken ribs.

The accident took place at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey when Freddie was driving an open-topped three-wheel Morgan Super 3 vehicle.

The star had been zipping around the track at 130mph when the smash occurred on December 13, 2022.

Freddie spent months in recovery but has finally emerged in the public eye once more after making the decision to quit Top Gear and return to cricket instead.

He was spotted out on Friday 8 September with the England team during their one-day international with New Zealand at Cardiff.

As he made his first appearance since the crash, Freddie had visible scars on his face and medical tape across his nose.

TV presenter Piers shared a picture of Freddie on social media as he penned: “Brilliant to see ⁦Freddie @flintoff11 back with the England team today, after that horrendous Top Gear car smash”.

Freddie, who is a former England cricketer, was flooded with supportive messages from his fans who said it was “great to see him out”.

One fan shared: “Great to see Freddie out and about, nice touch for England to bring him in. Must have been mentally tough for someone like him to be doing nothing that length of time. Will be a great confidence boost for his ongoing recovery”.

Another added: “Brilliant to see @flintoff11 back in the England set up today. Anyone who watched Field of Dreams will know what an incredible mentor he’ll be for everyone around him. Legend”, while another said: “I was only thinking about if he was ok the other day as we’d not heard anything. Nice to see him," and someone else shared: "Wishing him a speedy recovery”.

Freddie watched from the balcony during New Zealand’s innings and helped fielding drills with the England players.

England captain Jos Buttler said: "He's obviously an England legend and it's just nice to have him around the group. He's not been brought in with any specific role, just to be around and observe. A few of the lads can pick his brains a little bit and he's settled in really well. It's great to have him with us. Just for this series."
