Piers Morgan says some would ‘rather shoot themselves’ as host booed at NTAs

NTAs: Piers Morgan receives mixed audience reaction

Piers Morgan has said that people would “rather shoot themselves” than give him an award at the National Television Awards.

The presenter, 58, has been nominated in the TV interviews category at the NTAs for Piers Morgan Uncensored on Talk TV and spoke to the PA news agency on the red carpet ahead of the awards ceremony.

He said: “They’d all rather shoot themselves then give me an award but, but if it’s just on interviews, hard to say that anyone else has had bigger ones than we’ve had in the last year.”

Speaking about how he might be fair in his category, he added: “I don’t have any competition.”

To the presenter’s dismay, Piers unfortunately lost out on the award on Tuesday as The Graham Norton Show scooped the coveted prize.

During the ceremony, Piers was introduced to the arena by the award show’s host Joel Dommett on the glamorous night but the reaction wasn’t quite what he expected.

As the camera panned to the infamous host, the crowd erupted into a mixture of unsavoury noises, a chorus that Piers looked less than impressed about.

Taking to Twitter the presenter reacted to the audience as a social media user quipped: “Piers Morgan getting booed is the highlight of this show #NTAs.”

The on-screen star replied: “Wasn’t loud enough…”

In reaction to his post, another user joked: “Should it be louder!?”

Another commented: “I’ll do it louder next time,” while a third quipped: “Even though I did actually vote for you I thank the lord you didn’t win. Would never of heard the end of it!”

A fourth added: “I’m noticing a pattern that you’ve developed a thick skin. I’m sincerely impressed.”

Meanwhile, presenter Joel could not resist taking another cheeky dig at Piers.

As he announced the category coming up after the break, the night’s leader pointed the crowd’s attention towards the nominee.

Joel said: “Piers, you’re in that one, don’t walk out”, as he let the adverts roll to which the presenter offered an unimpressed expression back.
