With this year’s competition already heating up, Karen and her celebrity partner, comedian Eddie Kadi, received the show’s first perfect score from head judge Shirley Ballas.
Shirley enjoyed the couple’s street dance performance to Men In Black so much she gave them a 10. Speaking after handing out the score she said: “When you do something well, it needs rewarding. This was slick, it had style, it was edgy, it was entertaining, you found your groove. Everything that you love in dance you were able to bring today as a partnership, I absolutely loved it.”
Eddie also said that whilst performing the routine with Karen, he found a “whole other level of respect for street dance” and dedicated the performance to his family, who migrated from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The score caused some controversy from viewers, with ex-pro dancer James Jordan getting involved to claim the routine was “not Strictly.” He even shared a poll asking viewers to vote whether they thought the routine was worth a 10, which 96.5% of those who voted claimed it wasn’t.
Other viewers took to X to complain about the score, with one user writing: “Anyone else think a 10 was a bit much for Eddie and Karen? #strictly”. Whilst another wrote: “As much as I like Eddie, it was definitely ‘too early, for a ten from Shirley’! #strictly.”
Other fans loved the dance and thought the score was well deserved one fan penned: “So proud of Eddie & Karen getting this season’s first 10 on@bbcstrictly”. Whilst another posted: “Did I watch a different dance!? Genuinely thought Eddie was phenomenal #Strictly”.
