Karen speaks about ‘ups and downs’ on Strictly
Karen Hauer addressed the Strictly judges’ comments as she spoke about the struggles of training a beginner.
The professional dancer joined her celebrity dance partner Eddie Kadi on Tuesday’s episode of It Takes Two and admitted their time on the show has been full of “ups and downs”.
Fleur East questioned if the professional dancer was “gutted” about being placed in the bottom two on Sunday night’s results show.
The Strictly It Takes host asked: “You got a 10 the week before Karen – were you gutted about being in the bottom two?”
“No,” she replied. “Because it’s a learning experience. You have your ups and downs. Sometimes you’re at the top, sometimes you’re at the bottom, sometimes you’re in the middle and sometimes you have no idea where you are.”

Karen continued: “It’s ok. It’s grounding. It means you have to keep working hard at all times. It can be taken away from you very quickly.”
Fleur went on to quiz the duo about head judge Shirley Ballas and Craig Revel Horwood’s remarks on Saturday night’s show where they branded Eddie and Karen’s American Smooth a “dance disaster” when they were in hold.
“Do you think those comments were fair?” the presenter quizzed.
Karen sighed before she remarked: “No. It’s not whether they were fair or unfair but [Eddie] has improved. The first week that we ever danced we did ballroom and now we’re the fourth week in.

“What I would have loved to have heard – Shirley did mention it – was that his frame had improved. Some of these things take time. He is a complete beginner like most of the celebrities.
“So a lot of these things are not going to show up as quickly as they [judges] would want unless we work on the development, which I’m working on week in and week out.”
The duo found themselves in the dreaded dance-off this week after failing to impress the judges with their American Smooth to Sex Bomb by Tom Jones.
The pair went up up against Jody Cundy and his pro partner Jowita Przystal which saw the latter leave the competition.
Karen’s appearance on It Takes Two comes after it was reported the dancer has split Karen from husband Jordan after one year of marriage.
Strictly: It Takes Two airs weekdays on BBC Two at 6.30pm.
