Strictly’s Neil Jones defends Layton Williams as shows fix claims continue

Strictly’s Layton Williams addresses ‘unfair’ trained dancer backlash

Neil Jones has jumped to Layton Williams’s defence as he topped the leaderboard last weekend.

The professional dancer, 41, said that despite starring on the West End, the contestant, 29, still “has his work cut out” for him.

Layton, 29, wowed Strictly judges with his Quickstep routine to Puttin’ on the Ritz by Gregory Porter alongside his pro partner Nikita Kuzmin, 25.

The pair received the highest marks of the series so far getting all nines from the judges on their second week – which has only happened once in the show’s history.

Speaking with The Sun, Neil shared his thoughts on Layton’s prior dance experience.

He said: “It’s like saying that an Olympian could enter any sport and be able to do it. Well no, they can’t.”

“Yes Layton is a performer, but Nikita has been working so hard with him on his technique.”

He added: “Don’t get me wrong Layton is good, so Nikita has his work cut out for him, but like Shirley said he needs to keep working on it.”

Layton has been the subject of trolling since joining the BBC series due to his theatre background and experience in performing arts.
