Zara McDermotts Strictly struggle as she rushes to training on few hours sleep

Strictly: Zara McDermott performs first dance of the series

Zara McDermott admitted she was exhausted and fearful for her skin after “surviving on a few hours sleep” and dashing straight from Ibiza Airport to the Strictly Come Dancing rehearsal room.

The 26-year-old is strapped for time, as she’s been filming scenes for her four-part series Inside Ibiza – a close-up look at the famed Spanish party isle which is set to air on BBC Three next year.

She shared a glimpse of her strenuous and fast-paced life with 1.8 million Instagram fans this morning, with a snap of her applying a face mask on the plane.

“Not me getting funny looks from the man next to me for applying my face sheet mask on the plane,” she joked, punctuating her words with tears of laughter emojis.

“Sorry, but needs must – I am not letting this plane air con dry my skin out!” she insisted.

Zara looked calm and zen-like as she flashed the peace sign to the camera, eyes closed as she allowed the moisturising mask to sink into her skin.

However, the peaceful scene disguised the immense amount of pressure she’s been under this week.

“Yes I am back on a plane…. to the UK,” she told followers, adding: “I just flew to Ibiza for some pick-ups for my documentary and I’m already almost back.

“Surviving on only a few hours sleep. Straight back into the training room from that airport. Please bring coffee,” she implored, tagging her pro dance partner Graziano di Prima.

The star’s recent performances have received mixed reactions from the judges, including the notoriously exacting Craig Revel-Horwood, but she’s determined to succeed and give herself her best shot at snaring the Glitterball Trophy by Christmas.

Her follower count on Instagram recently slid from 1.9 million to 1.8 million, but her posts still get a huge amount of support.

Meanwhile, fans are sure to love her latest documentary – a more light-hearted follow-up to previous offerings which tackled tough topics like revenge porn, rape and eating disorders.

In her promotional statement for BBC Three, she explained: “I’ll be discovering what makes Ibiza tick and finding out what the future might hold for this ever-changing island.

“As the ‘Instagram effect’ makes Ibiza the place to be seen for more and more young Brits, I’m keen to explore how the island operates and deals with the challenges this pose.”

The documentary will be Zara’s first-ever international filming project – and despite her busy schedule, she can’t wait to get her teeth into it.

Clare Sillery, Head of Commissioning Documentaries for the BBC has stated: “Zara’s popularity is down to her ability to speak at eye level to the BBC Three audience about what matters most to them, so we’re thrilled she’ll be bringing that insight to Ibiza for us.”

Meanwhile, fans can catch her next dance performance this weekend on Strictly, screened on Saturday at 6:35pm on BBC One.
