I spent £5 in Tesco in December 2022 & October 2023 – I was horrified by how much women’s essentials cost now | The Sun

A MONEY-SAVING mum who snapped up everyday toiletries in Tesco for £5 last year has re-bought the same shopping list to see if she can still stick with the tiny budget amid the cost-of-living crisis.

Leigh, from the UK, who regularly shares money-saving tips on social media, stocked up on loads of everyday toiletries for less than £5 in Tesco in December last year.

In a clip shared to TikTok (@mortgagefreeleigh), she decided to re-visit her £5 budget shopping challenge to see if it could still be done.

"It doesn't start well because the 15p soap has almost tripled in price and is now 40p, which is an absolute shocker," she says.

Next up, she notes how a bottle of lightly fragranced shower gel, which is now priced at 30p, has increased by 5p when compared to last year.

Heading over to the 45p Tesco essentials mouthwash, she continues: "Don't worry – there's good news to come because the mouthwash has actually held it's price.

Leigh goes on to say how it doesn't stop there because the period products that were 75p last time have actually decreased in value and are 50p.

"We're at £3.90 for seven items so far but the last items is the most expensive.

"Last time it was £1.20, which would take us over budget but this time I've gone for this different one at £1."

The money-saving whizz then holds up the Soft and Gentle Orchid Desire roll on up to the camera.

"I literally can't believe it – £4.90 for all eight items," she says.

"The only thing I did different was swap out the antiperspirant."

The post has since gone viral, garnering a whopping 86k views and several comments from social media users up and down the country.
