I’m a dermatologist – three places people forget to scrub… and we bet you don’t clean under your nails | The Sun

A DERMATOLOGIST has lifted the lid on the three parts of the body that people forget to scrub properly when they’re in the shower.

The skin specialist, known as Dermguru, then went into further detail – and told why they need to change their habits instantly.

TikTok user @dermguru explained: “These are the places that you’re definitely not washing enough.

“I’m a dermatologist and you absolutely need to be washing these places more often than you are.”

Starting off strong, Dermguru revealed: “First up, is behind your ears.”

She then demonstrated a simple technique to see if you pass the test for cleaning it in the right way.

Dermguru lightly rubbed one finger at the back of her ear and then said: “If you go like this behind your ear and you notice an odour to it, or you feel something, you should be washing it more.

“This is also a super common area to get flaking and build-up like dandruff.”

Once she set the record straight on ears, Dermguru said the next place people often fail to remember is their belly button.

She continued to her 1 million plus followers: “This is a super common area to collect sweat, debris, dirt, and build-up.”

And while that sounds unhygienic enough, the skin pro had a further warning – and it’s not for the faint hearted.

She said: “In fact, if you’re not cleaning it enough, you can build up so much debris and dirt in there that you can develop a naval stone.”

A naval stone, otherwise known as omphalolith, is “looks and feels like a hard, smooth stone that appears in the navel.”

But, in reality, the “stone” is made up of a number of things that can include bacteria, hair and natural proteins.

The stone can be removed by doctors in a noninvasive way.

Dermguru then shared the third and final place that people overlook when it should be top of their list.

She concluded: “Finally, you’re definitely not cleaning your fingernails enough.

“When you’re showering, you really need to get under those nails with a scrub brush to get rid of the dirt, debris and build-up.”

While many people said they’d taken note and would be cleaning these areas more thoroughly in the future, others were shocked that this was not part of their daily routine.

One person wrote: “Absolutely blows my mind people aren’t scrubbing nails, especially long ones.”
