A GARDENING pro has urged plant growers to prepare their backyard for the winter.
There were four tasks she insisted must be done, including one which was particularly important for windy plots.
The good news for green-fingered fans was her tips were super-easy to do – but worth it.
Investing in a bit of time now, she said, should give your gardens the chance to thrive next year.
“These are the must-do garden jobs you need to do this autumn to prepare for winter," said The Elis Project (@theelisproject).
She has 56,000 TikTok followers, where she posts videos on "gardening, cooking and sustainable food."
In this post, she focused on the four jobs to do this fall.
Secateurs were required for the first errand.
“We need to nip the tops off of our indeterminate tomato varieties," she said.
"[This will] encourage the green fruits to swell up and ripen before the end of the season."

There were more fruits for the next job but this time of the more exotic variety.
“Bring citrus and delicate fruits, that prefer tropical climates, inside," she wrote.
“Position them in a nice sunny position for winter."
It was time for some deconstruction in the following job.
“Take down temporary growing vertical solutions," she urged.
“This is especially important if you live in an exposed area as it could be blown over in the winter."
Finally, give your compost a boost she said.
“Pick up leaves and spent crops and put them in the compost so that we have a nice new batch of compost for the next season.”

Her tips encouraged at least one commenter to get busy: “My jobs for the weekend.”
Another offered her own trick: “My runner beans are still flowering. You can dig bean and pea stems into the ground to feed your veg patch, full of nitrogen.”
