I’m an interior designer and there are three mistakes people always make – including painting the ceiling | The Sun

AN INTERIOR designer has revealed the mistakes he always sees amateur home owners make.

Loren Kreiss, who is the CEO of his own interior design company based in the US, knows a thing or two about good taste in the home.

And in one clip, he explained that one of the worst decisions people make is painting their ceilings and trims a different colour to the walls.

He explained that this will “make your home look amateur and sloppy”.

Loren went on: “Painting them all the same colour will give you the cohesion and sophistication you’re longing for.”

The expert went on to share the importance of dimmer switches in the home, explaining that they’re “essential to the vibe of any room” and not expensive.

He explained it’s a no-brainer to install them into every room in a bid to elevate the space.

Loren then shared a “rookie mistake” that he sees many people make, which is to try and fit a piece of furniture too big or small for the room.

Calling this a “sizing error”, he said it’s a costly mistake.

“Using something as simple as blue painter’s tape to map out the size of your furniture on your floor could save you tens of thousands of dollars,” he said.

“If you’re like me, you’ve made at least one of these mistakes at some point in your journey,” he said as the video came to an end.

People were quick to comment as many agreed with two out of three of his assessments.

One person shared: “Not sure how I feel about my ceiling and trim being the same color as my walls”.

“Two out of three isn’t bad. I strongly disagree with the idea that all walls trim and ceiling have to be the same color,” another said.

A third posted: “I never want to see my ceiling and trim the same color,” to which TikTok user @lorenkreiss replied: “You’re missing out”.

But others said they made the switch as one said: “Painted our walls and ceiling the same colour, looks so much better!!!!”

And another shared: “I recently did this for a client, same color thought out but different sheens. The GC thought I was crazy because he'd never seen or done it before.”
