AS CHILDREN get older, it’s only natural that they need a bigger bed – but it’s not always easy to cough up the money for an upgrade.
That’s why Paula, who is a wife, mum, nurse and avid DIY whizz, took to her social media account to share a nifty hack.
“We turned this IKEA crib into a toddler bed in 60 seconds,” she told viewers as the video started.
Panning the camera over the cot, viewers could see it was made of a light wood with a simple mint-green mattress inside.
A man could then be seen removing several railings out of one corner from the cot, creating a step for kids to get in.
“We simply cut five of the railings off and that’s it!!!” she shared.

After making the bed, complete with a pillow and a baby doll, she showed her own child open the door to the room before climbing into her bed.
“I love it mom!” she wrote over this, mimicking what her child told her.
Her two kids then appeared to laugh and cheer as they jumped on the bed while holding onto the sides.
In the caption, TikTok user @peytandparkdesigns added: “Because WHO has time to disassemble and reasseble ikea furniture.

“main reason we chose to remove a few rails was to prevent our toddlers from falling out of bed”.
People were quick to comment on the post as one person wrote: “It’s a great idea! Gives a child some independence (if their room is safe)”.
Another shared: “That’s genius!” while a third chimed: “Brilliant”.
A fourth said: “You can also just take out the front side. Thats what we did.”
Paula replied: “We didn’t want our little one falling off the fully open side so opted for this instead,” followed by a smiling emoji.
Another suggested: “mine is even quicker: take out the mattress, put it on the floor, done.” to which she responded “Hahaha I like that,” followed by a crying with laughter emoji.
“Jesus why are some people so critical. This is genius! Safe whilst giving independence,” another said.
While it’s a nifty hack, the holes created from removing the railing could pose a risk. Be cautious when doing any DIY work in this regard.
