HOPING to get the perfect texture on her furniture and home’s finishes, a DIYer used an unlikely painting method.
Rather than buy a brush, she used a pair of socks.
DIY home decorator Marley Soden (@marley.makes.things) put her artistic abilities to good use when sprucing up her space.
But rather than use a paint brush to get the job done, as she often does for her murals, she used a sock.
“The sock method is a painting method that I’ve been using for a few years,” she explained in the clip.
“I did not invent this, but it works super well.”
To follow the technique, you simply put on a disposable glove and then top it off with a clean sock on your hand.
“It needs to be clean. Very important.”
The rest is pretty self-explanatory: dip your sock-covered hand into the paint and rub it on your surface.
“It works really well for getting a very smooth coat of paint without any brush strokes.”

According to Marley, the hack is perfect for furniture and home finishes.
“I used it for painting my [stair] railings, which I highly recommend because it gets in and out of all the little crevices and shows no strokes.”
Besides providing a smooth sheen, it is also perfect for those of us who don’t want to spend money on brushes or deal with the clean-up.
Her method was one the viewers were into.
“Great idea. Thanks for the share,” one person wrote.
“Everybody is so creative,” echoed another.
And a third joked they were going to do a lot more than paint some furniture: “I’m going to paint my home exterior with not one, but two socks.”
