A new mum had no choice but to give birth in the back of a Vauxhall Zafira Saphira – with her own mum acting as midwife.
Lorien Williams, 24, was on the way to hospital, when she realised she needed to push.
Her sister, Deanna Bass, 33, who was driving the car, pulled over, and mum, Hayley Williams, 54, called 999.
The emergency services talked Hayley through the birth, helping her to deliver her own grandchild.
Lorien, a former carer and now a stay-at-home mum, said: ‘I still can’t get over that it actually happened, it really is crazy.
‘There was no way anybody could have predicted that this was going to happen.
‘If we had got to the hospital, my sister wouldn’t have been able to be in the room to see me give birth.
‘In a way, the moment was bittersweet for us all.’
Lorien had invited her sister and her children over for dinner in August last year when she was heavily pregnant with baby Harper-Rae.
While she was waiting for them to arrive, she headed to the garden with her daughter, Ruby, three.
Lorien said: ‘I was cleaning the back garden and needing a rest, so I sat down on my daughter’s trampoline, and I felt a pop and then noticed my water had broken.’
In her panic, she called her sister Deanna for help.
‘I was all alone and scared.
‘I started to panic over the phone, but she helped calm me down,’ Lorien said.
Deanna then rushed over with her own children to be with her sister.
Lorien said: ‘I decided to wait as I wasn’t in any real pain, but during those hours my waters kept trickling constantly.’
Lorien went to the hospital to undergo a sweep – which can bring on natural labour when someone is overdue – and was sent home at 12.30am.
But soon after arriving home, she was in ‘agony’.
She got back in her sister’s car to head back to the hospital, along with her mum and her partner, Luke Sermandel, 23, a security guard, at 2.45am.
But just 15 minutes later, her mum had baby Harper-Rae in her arms.
The birth wasn’t entirely smooth sailing, as Hayley and Deanna noticed that the umbilical cord was wrapped around the newborn’s neck.
Lorien said: ‘I was really scared.
‘They were trying to pull the chord, to unravel it from her neck.’
Thankfully, they were able to untangle the cord and Harper-Rae was taken safely with her mum to hospital.
Lorien said: ‘It’s incredible how it happened, I got home from hospital at around 12:30am and then I had her at 3.03am.
‘Harper is now speaking – saying “mam” and “dad”.
‘She is doing amazing.
‘If I could, I would do it all again tomorrow.’
