Kate Middleton’s go-to jacket gets a limited edition makeover and it’s perfect for autumn

The Princess of Wales always looks chic, even when her royal engagements involve chilly walks in the countryside, and she has been spotted wearing Barbour jackets on a number of these occasions – including during the royal couple’s tour of Wales in April this year.

And now the iconic British clothing brand has just released a limited edition version of its classic wax jacket – and we bet this gets the royal seal of approval too.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Barbour’s Beaufort wax jacket, first introduced in 1983, Barbour has remastered and re-released the design. Priced at £299, it’s available to buy through retailers like John Lewis or you can find your nearest Barbour stockist here.

Practical yet stylish, the unisex jacket comes in three colours – navy, sage and olive – and features a tartan lining, a collar that can be worn up or down, and a number of useful pockets.

Made from Barbour’s signature waxed cotton material, it’s lightweight yet waterproof, so perfect come rain or shine – or whatever the unpredictable weather here in the UK has in store for us this autumn.

To copy Kate’s country-chic style, pair it with a chunky jumper, skinny jeans and knee-length boots. We also think this coat would look great worn over a floral print midi dress or neutral-coloured trousers.

Meanwhile if you’re looking to emulate the Princess’s look without the royal budget, we’ve spotted a great £35 dupe of the pretty pink Rixo dress she wore back in 2022 during the couple’s royal tour of the Caribbean.

Featuring a similar two-toned animal print and a tie-up belt to pull in the waist, M&S’s dress looks nearly identical to the £245 designer version. It has also proved popular with shoppers, who have called it “super flattering and easy to wear”.

If this Barbour coat has got you thinking about outerwear ideas for the new season, OK!’s fashion editor has pulled together her pick of the best jackets and coats for autumn.

Meanwhile if you’re in the market for some affordable new knitwear, we love this £28 cardigan worn by Frankie Bridge.
