An optical illusion uploaded by popular TikTok account @unseenillusions has left tens of users on the social app divided over what they first see upon observation.
The brainteaser-based account regularly posts baffling optical illusions, puzzles and riddles for its 37,500 followers to analyse and solve.
Shared in September 2021, the post has since amassed over 1400 likes, as perplexed people are asked: ‘Do you see a hole or a bale of hay and its shadow?’
The still image comprises of a photo of a bale of hay perfectly camouflaged in the surrounding grassland – but upon closer inspection, it appears to blend so well that only a grave-shaped hole or shadow can be seen.

Agreeing on first spotting a bale of hay, one person wrote, ‘Hay bale,’ while another commented, ‘Lump of hay.’
Another individual confirmed: ‘Bale of hay because it don’t line up in spots so you can see the outline of the bale.’
Some observers, on the other hand, claimed to have first spotted a shadow or hole, with one writing, ‘It is a shadow,’ while another commented, ‘Shadow.’
However, an overwhelming number of people insist on seeing both the bay of hay and shadow – with some having to inspect once more after only seeing one of either.
One person wrote, ‘Hole then both,’ while another baffled individual commented, ‘Both but I saw three hole first.’
There is one simple trick you can use to stop another mind-bending optical illusion in its tracks – but do you hold the key to shut it down?

But according to the designers, there is actually a very simple way to make the movement stop.
At first glance, it appears that waves are sweeping across the image from one corner to the next.
There are several reasons as to why the image looks like it’s moving – from the white lines which create a contrast to the spacing in between the rows of hearts.
The optical illusion relies on a pattern which merges it into one moving image when you move your eyes around it.
However, if you focus your gaze on a fixed point on the image, you will find that it’ll stop moving completely.
