Suncream: How to protect your skin correctly
1. A high SPF
Justmylook’s qualified beauty expert, Hayley Walker, explained: “It’s no secret that the sun can do serious damage to the skin. We’ve all seen the viral image of the woman who applied sunscreen to her face and not her neck.
“UV rays accelerate the ageing process of the skin which leads to fine lines, age spots, wrinkles, and sagging skin. Wearing a high SPF daily will help protect the skin, maintaining a youthful appearance.
“My preferred choice of SPF is factor 50 to ensure my skin is fully protected. It’s crucial to know that you must wear SPF every day, even on overcast days to protect your skin from damage as the UV rays are still harmful, regardless of the temperature and weather.”
There are many affordable SPFs on the market, many also suitable for all skin types, so make sure to do some research prior to purchasing.
2. Hydrating moisturiser
The expert said a “must-have” product for maintaining a “youthful appearance” is a super hydrating moisture.

Hayley explained: “Regardless of your skin type, oily, dry, or combination, you should always be applying moisturiser, both day and night to maintain a youthful complexion.
“Having hydrated skin is a must-have for someone who wants to look younger. When your skin is hydrated it’s more elastic and supple, meaning your skin bounces back from excessive facial movements more easily, which helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
“Dehydrated skin on the other hand is a lot more stiff which makes it easier for wrinkles to settle in.”
When choosing a hydrated moisturiser, make sure to look for a product which includes hydrating ingredients.

According to the pro, this includes hyaluronic acid which helps the skin to retain water molecules, leaving you with a “plumped-up” complexion.
Niacinamide can also be a beneficial ingredient, helping to improve the skin’s natural barrier function.
3. Vitamin C serum
Hayley continued: “Serums are not only hydrating to the skin but they can also combat a range of issues including hyperpigmentation, dark spots, and dull skin. Vitamin C is a great ingredient for anyone looking to maintain youthful skin.
“Vitamin C is an antioxidant that neutralises damage from free radicals, brightens the skin, and helps stimulate collagen production.
“Vitamin C interferes with abnormal pigment production, helping to lighten dark spots on the skin as well as preserving collagen fibres and preventing damage to the skin’s supportive structure, ultimately leaving you with an even and bright complexion.
“Make sure to pat in your serum, rather than rubbing in to activate ingredients and reach the deeper layers of the skin.”
The expert also recommended retinol night cream, eye cream as well as AHA exfoliants to help slow down the ageing process.
She added: “Whilst there is no way to stop the natural process of skin aging, including these products and ingredients in your skincare routine will keep your skin looking hydrated, treat age concerns such as dark spots and fine lines, and prevent your skin from further sun damage, giving you that much desired youthful glow.”
