A quirky feature in this inner-city terrace home will make any guest feel like they’re in the middle of the countryside.

The view from the kitchen appears as if it’s looking out over rolling grassy hills and tall trees across a rural clearing.

However, the panoramic ‘view’ is a stunning mural painted on the walls that wrap around the charming suburban 1890s-built home’s courtyard.

The spectacular Rowe Street pad, named ‘Barrington’, in the Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy North, sticks out on the leafy street it sits in for its Gothic-style all-black exterior embellished with ornate balustrades.

A long arched corridor leads down to the light-filled open-plan living and kitchen area with walnut-timber joinery and a marble-topped island bench.

The Barrington property is on the market for $3million with auctioneer Andrew Simondson of Jellis Craig Fitzroy telling realestate.com the unique backyard feature is raising eyebrows among potential buyers.

‘The back area is designed so if you open the bi-fold glass doors the kitchen and dining area can feel like an outdoor space,’ he said.

‘As much as it has its own grass and trees, they just got creative and wanted to create a garden mural with a park feel. People so far have quite liked it – it’s a small space but it just gives off a different energy.’
