SUELLA BRAVERMAN has had husband Rael Braverman by her side throughout her various political roles.
The politician has been Home Secretary twice, having lost the job for a second time in November 2023.
Who is Suella Braverman?
Suella Braverman is a politician who became a household name when she was named as Home Secretary for the Conservatives in September 2022.
She left the role shortly after but was then swiftly re-appointed by Rishi Sunak.
In November 2023, just over a year after stepping back into the role, Braverman was sacked as Home Secretary following a public backlash to comments she made regarding pro-Palestine protestors marching on Armistice Day.
Braverman stirred controversy after she accused cops of “playing favourites” by refusing to ban a Gaza march on Armistice Day.
The Home Secretary lashed out at Met chiefs, claiming they were deliberately tougher on right wing protestors than “politically-connected minority groups who are favoured by the left”.
Writing in The Times, Braverman said: “Unfortunately, there is a perception that senior police officers play favourites when it comes to protesters.
“During Covid, why was it that lockdown objectors were given no quarter by public order police yet Black Lives Matters demonstrators were enabled, allowed to break rules and even greeted with officers taking the knee?
“Right-wing and nationalist protesters who engage in aggression are rightly met with a stern response yet pro-Palestinian mobs displaying almost identical behaviour are largely ignored, even when clearly breaking the law?”
The then-Home Secretary added she had spoken to serving and former officers who have “noted this double standard”.
The article caused a civil war in the Tory Party – with cabinet ministers calling for their colleague to be sacked over the incendiary remark.
Prior to her stints as Home Secretary, Braverman served as attorney general for England and Wales, and chair of the European Research Group of backbench Tory MPs.
She became a Member of Parliament for Fareham in 2015.
