Cole Palmer was substituted during England U21s 9-1 victory against Serbia on Thursday with an injury, spelling more woes for Mauricio Pochettino.

The 21-year-old seemed to gesture to the touchline that he was in some discomfort and subsequently left the field on the 52nd minute.

Lee Carsley’s European champions went on to secure a convincing win, but the injury sparked much concern among Blues fans online.

It comes after Palmer moved to Stamford Bridge in a £42.5million deadline day transfer this summer and has played nine games for the club in all competitions.

While the severity of the injury is yet to be revealed, it comes as another set back for Chelsea who have endured a torrid time with injuries at the start of the new season.

Fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to vent their frustrations, with one writing: ‘Comes to Chelsea gets injured we are cursed.’

Another echoed that sentiment saying: ‘Chelsea we are cursed,’ while another said ‘Chelsea now have a scarcely believable 13 or 14 players out injured again. It’s time to be a bit more selfish and pull these players out.’

‘Can’t our players finish a game without injuries?’ another asked.
