Gerwyn Price turned his trial at the ministry of sound into a boos cruise – and revealed he nearly didn't turn up.
On his previous appearance in the Ally Pally madhouse, the 'Iceman' resorted to dustbin-lid headphones to block out the soundtrack of a hostile crowd.
And after a routine 3-0 win against Connor Scutt at the Paddy Power PDC World Championship, he admitted: “At six o'clock yesterday, I was still in the house and I probably wasn't going to play in the tournament.

“Last year the Ally Pally crowd was on my back, and I was a bit apprehensive, but they were brilliant tonight.” If Price feared he would get a rougher ride than Michelle Mone's car-crash TV interview to “clear” her name, he need not have worried.
Although his reception from a full house around last orders was mixed, any hostility was only pantomime villain-grade and the 2021 champion soon warmed to his task. He took the first set, against the throw, in seven minutes and 27-year-old Scutt, from Kenley in south London's hinterlands, was soon resigned to his fate.

Only when Price was within sight of the chequered flag did Price stumble, eventually nailing his seventh match dart and checking out with a respectable 98.01 average.
