Punter Christopher Perry scooped £24,000 in the Ten To Follow during the Flat season and shared some tips to success.

He told Tote: “I’m 49 now, I suppose I've been playing for about 30 years, since it started really.

“I used to buy the Racing Post when the (Ten To Follow) competition first started. I can’t even remember what year it was but it would've been the early 90s.

“It was just postal entries only, so I would've compiled my list and sent off my form with my postal order and I was only young really, I was 18, 19, or 20 when I first started playing.”

Ballydoyle’s Auguste Rodin and Paddington and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Ace Impact were all included in the Belfast punter's side.

And he reckons keeping up with the latest news on the big races is crucial.

He continued: "I suppose the key is targeting the bonus races, I tried to have at least one horse for every bonus race in the first part of the season.

World Pool turnover on UK and Irish racing hits £475m

A whopping £21.4million turnover on Champions Day capped off a brilliant year for the World Pool.

There were also big increases on King George day, 2000 Guineas day and days one and three of Royal Ascot.

Prize money won across the 131 World Pool races in the UK and Ireland this year has hit a record high of £32 million.

While the World Pool Moment of the Day initiative has seen £68,000 given out – £4,000 for each of the 17 World Pool Moment of the Day winners.

In the UK and Ireland, World Pool is accessed via the Tote, at racecourses, online and via the Tote App.

All customers betting directly with the Tote benefit from Tote Guarantee which ensures all Win bets will always exceed or match the industry starting price.

Alex Frost, Chief Executive of the UK Tote, said: "We are delighted that British and Irish racing has enjoyed such a successful World Pool season in 2023.

"It is incredibly positive to see revenues from World Pool supporting racecourses’ investment in prize money which was at a new record of £32m for World Pool races this year.

"This highlights the increasingly important role pool betting is playing the in the future sustainability of the sport.

"Following our new five-year agreement with the Hong Kong Jockey Club, making the UK Tote the exclusive partner for World Pool in the UK and Ireland, we look forward to collaborating on exciting developments, including new bet types and further improvements to the customer experience for the 2024 season."

“I follow the news, the entries and use a tracker.

“I’ve played both Ten To Follow Flat and jumps but I’m definitely more of a Flat fan, I haven’t had much luck over the jumps.”

But that hasn't put him off taking part, adding: “I’ve got to play it now I think.

“My uncle is more of a jumps fan, he’ll help me out with a few of the Jumps selections.

“I suppose I have to put in Galopin Des Champs, Constitution Hill must be a banker as well, but they’re obvious choices.

“I’ll have to do a bit of study and research. I always put in a novice chaser and a novice hurdler as well to rack up the points. And, potentially an unexposed handicapper… a few Willie Mullins horses in there, they seem to dominate recently.”

Excited for the Ten To Follow Jumps to start? Entries open 11am on 31st October.
