Major hint on Mason Greenwood's Man Utd future as Getafe boss speaks out on star striker | The Sun

A MAJOR hint has been shared over Mason Greenwood's Manchester United future.

The star striker is on loan at Getafe in Spain, but is still on United's books for this season.

Getafe FC will consider buying the goalscorer, The Athletic reports, after impressing with the team with four goals in 13 matches.

That means Greenwood is unlikely to return to Old Trafford after joining the club at age six.

The Madrid side also reportedly have a 20 per cent sell-on clause in his season-long loan contract if the striker were to move elsewhere.

Getafe did not pay any money to bring Greenwood to the club on loan, meaning they are set to profit from the deal no matter the outcome.

Getafe president Angel Corres has said the Spanish side are “considering buying” the player as well as extending his loan.

Speaking to Cadena SER, Corres revealed on Tuesday: "With Greenwood, we are not only planning on him staying another year, but we also want to buy him."

Greenwood's contract at United goes until 2025 with an option to extend it for another year.

But, other European teams like Lazio, Valencia and Real Sociedad are said to be eyeing the 22-year-old.

The owner of Champions League team Lazio is "obsessed" with the English striker and a January bid can't be ruled out, Italian media have reported.

La Lazio Siamo Noi, a Lazio news website, has reported the boss of the Serie A side still has feelings for Greenwood after a summer deal fell through.

Lazio president Claudio Lotito is reported to be hellbent on having a second go at signing Greenwood as the team currently sits in 10th, with the sale potentially happening as soon as January.

Greenwood was arrested in January 2022 following charges of attempted rape, assault and coercive control.

He denied all the charges and they were later dropped by the CPS.

The club attempted to reintegrate Greenwood but made a U-turn on the stance after fan backlash.

Greenwood last played for Man Utd in their 1-0 win over West Ham on January 22, 2022.
