Man Utd joined by Newcastle in transfer chase to sign Europe's hottest striker for just a bargain £15m | The Sun

MANCHESTER UNITED reportedly face a fight with Newcastle to sign Bundesliga sensation Serhou Guirassy for a bargain £15million fee.

The Guinea international, 27, has been earmarked by Erik ten Hag as the perfect man to provide competition with Rasmus Hojlund up front.

And we reported this week how the Red Devils have supposedly made contact with Stuttgart regarding his availability.

Guirassy has a host of top clubs watching him after his sensational start to the campaign in Germany.

The striker has been in scintillating form and has scored 15 Bundesliga goals in 10 appearances and is only behind Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane in the chase for the golden boot.

However, he is available for a cut-price £15.1m due to a release clause in his contract, leading to United’s interest.

However, now The Guardian has claimed that Eddie Howe’s Newcastle have placed him on their transfer shortlist ahead of the January window.

Fellow Premier League clubs West Ham, Fulham, Brentford, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth have been linked with him in the past too.

Guirassy came through the ranks in the French lower leagues with Laval before embarking on a journeyman career with moves to Lille, a spell at Auxerre on loan, Cologne and then Amiens.

He then enjoyed a three-year spell at Rennes, scoring 19 in 65 league appearances but, after an initial loan spell at Stuttgart produced 11 goals in 22 Bundesliga matches last term, he was on the move again last summer.

Guirassy sealed a permanent switch to Stuttgart on a three-year contract for a measly £7.8m, but he could soon be on the move again after his record-breaking start to this season.

The star recently revealed how much he would love to play in the Premier League – although he did not rule out staying with Stuttgart.

He said: “I cannot hide these things – everyone knows the Premier League is one of the most competitive leagues in the world.

“But at this time I don’t close any doors. There are some very big teams in Europe and it’s not focused only on the Premier League.

“At Stuttgart we have such a good team and everything is possible in football. If we can continue to be humble like we have been so far then we have a good chance.”
