The Newcastle boss has been given the nod by former Three Lions striker Peter Crouch.
Southgate, who has been in charge since 2016, is contracted until the end of 2024.

"I know Newcastle fans won’t thank me for that, but I think he’d be good. I don't think it needs to be someone who has played for England.
"I think a good young manager could be a great option, and I feel like he's someone who could carry that young team forward and that cohesion that Gareth built.

Howe guided Newcastle to safety after taking over at St. James' Park in November 2022.

Those performances include fourth place at the 2018 World Cup and the final of the Euros in 2021.
His side sealed their place at Euro 2024 earlier this month, with the draw for the finals scheduled for December 2.
