Tributes pour in for Hibs fan who tragically died at Viaplay Cup semi-final 'doing what he loved' at Hampden | The Sun

THE heartbroken daughter of a Hibs fan who sadly passed away has paid tribute to her dad who died 'doing what he loved.'

67-year old Ian Berwick collapsed outside Hampden Park at 8.15pm following Saturday's Viaplay Cup semi-final between Hibs and Aberdeen.


Emergency services were on the scene bud the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr Berwick's daughter Katie stated that she was 'heartbroken' in an emotional tribute to her father on social media.

In a moving post, she said: "There are no words which can describe how Mum and I are feeling just now, we are heartbroken to say that my Dad, Ian Berwick, passed away last night doing what he loved and watching the Hibs.

"As we are still processing this, along with family and friends, please know that funeral arrangements will be made in due time.

"We appreciate the understanding. I love you to the moon and back dad."

The post was inundated with responses as several people paid their own tributes to the Hibs-daft dad.

One person said: "Ian was a great friend with a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone. One of the good guys taken too soon."

Another tribute read: "Devastating news, Ian was such a kindhearted and funny man. A true Hibee, thoughts are with you."

Hibs announced the sad news in the hours that followed the game on Saturday night.

The club said:  "Hibernian FC are devastated to learn of the passing of one of our supporters outside Hampden Park after the game this evening.

"The thoughts of everyone at the club are with the gentleman’s family, friends and loved ones."

We send our condolences at this extremely sad time."

Aberdeen also said: "Everyone at Aberdeen FC is deeply saddened by the tragic passing of a Hibernian supporter outside Hampden this evening.

"We send our deepest condolences, and our thoughts are with the friends and family at this time."

Police Scotland confirmed to the Scottish Sun that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the man's sad passing.

A spokesperson said: "Around 8.15pm, police were made aware a man had collapsed outside the stadium following the Hibernian v Aberdeen match on Saturday, 4 November, 2023.

"Emergency services attended, and the 67-year-old man was pronounced dead.

"There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
