Who is Joey Barton's wife Georgia McNeil? | The Sun

JOEY Barton regularly stokes controversy by sharing his unpopular opinions online.

The former Manchester City and Newcastle United star caused outrage in December 2023 when he claimed women were not qualified to talk about men's game — here we take a look at his partner Georgia and their kids.

Who is Joey Barton's partner Georgia McNeil?

Joey Barton and Georgia McNeil were childhood sweethearts.

Barton married longterm partner McNeil in a lavish ceremony at the Aynhoe Park country estate in Banbury, Oxfordshire.

The wedding took place on the fifth birthday of their daughter in 2019.

Though Joey is known for being outspoken on social media, he shares much less about his partner and his private life in the public domain, so there is very little information about his wife available.

Who is Joey Barton?

Barton is a former footballer who played for teams including Manchester City, Newcastle, Queens Park Rangers and Rangers.

Joey started his 15-year playing career with Manchester City in 2002 after going through their youth system, going on to make 150 appearances for the club.

He then moved to Newcastle in a £5.8million transfer in July 2007, before leaving for QPR in August 2011.

The midfielder was then put on loan to French side Marseille during the 2012-13 season, then making his way to Burnley for one season — helping the Clarets win promotion to the Premier League.

Barton made one appearance for England in 2007 — despite criticising some of his fellow teammates.

Joey also had a dismal six-month stint at Rangers in the Scottish Premiership in 2016.

Speaking about his time at Ibrox in April 2023, he said: “Every time I read a Scottish paper it’s a case of ‘Flop Barton’. It’s the only blot on my copybook as a player.

"Maybe there’s only one thing for it and that means I’ll have to go back to Scotland and take charge of Hibs, Aberdeen or Hearts — and ram it down the Old Firm’s throats.”

The footballer then began his management career with Fleetwood Town in June 2018.

But the Cod Army axed Joey after chairman Andy Pilley spent a few days reviewing the background of his fall out with striker Ched Evans.

A Fleetwood statement read: "Fleetwood Town can confirm manager Joey Barton has left the club with immediate effect.

"We would like to thank Joey for his work during his time at Highbury Stadium and wish him success in the future."

He became the manager of Bristol Rovers in February 2021.

But in October 2023 Joey was sacked by the League One outfit just weeks after he was slammed for comments about Luke Thomas, with fans accusing him of "throwing his own player under the bus."

The decision also followed Barton's jibes at Steve Evans — he called the Stevenage manager a "fat man" and a "weeble" — after the 1-1 draw in October 2023.

A Rovers statement confirmed: "Bristol Rovers Football Club can confirm that today the club has relieved First Team Manager Joey Barton of his duties.
