A Place In The Sun makes huge change in show first — and fans will be thrilled

A Place In The Sun is facing a major show shake-up – and fans are going to be delighted.

The iconic Channel 4 show has been a staple on telly screens for 23 years – making its debut back in 2000. Since then, the programme has seen a slew of Brits hope to trade bleak Britain for sunny climates abroad and their dream home.

Show favourites like Laura Hamilton, Jasmine Harman and Lee Juggurnauth all have been tasked to find the Brits their perfect crib. And the majority of the time, they get their happy ending.

And now, for the first time ever, a spin-off show has been announced. The series will see the presenters check in on the families who have moved abroad and see what impact it has had on their lives.

Two seasons of the spin-off show have already been commissioned, with the first airing next year. It’s been revealed the show will also be called A Place in the Sun What Happened Next?

Executive producer, Michelle Heeley, told the Mirror: “It’s been wonderful to re-visit these house-hunters who are thriving in their new homes in the sun.

"We are immensely proud to have helped change so many people's lives. It’s a testament to all the hard work our production team and presenters have put in over the past 23 years. I can’t wait for viewers to see what happens next.”

Channel 4's Jo Street added: "A Place in the Sun is such a beloved show, and we know the audience really cares what happens to the house-hunters once the cameras leave. What a treat to catch up and see what happened when that offer was finally accepted."

Laura Hamilton hinted at a spin-off series last year. Speaking to The Express in April 2022: “I think it would be it would be lovely if there was an opportunity for us to show the viewers at home.

“Because I think it is something that people are quite interested in, what happens next. People are interested in seeing it and it's nice for us.” She then teased: “But who knows? Who knows? Watch this space, it might be something that we get to see on TV.”
