BBC Breakfast star Sally Nugent claimed she dances like a "tense newsreader" in training for Strictly Come Dancing.

The presenter, 52, is one of the celebrities taking part in the 2023 Christmas Special of the BBC competition and will take to the dancefloor with Graziano Di Prima. Conversation soon turned to Sally's upcoming Strictly stint during Monday's instalment (November 27) of BBC Breakfast as Jon Kay announced what viewers can expect from the BBC during the festive period.

Jon, 54, explained to fans that Sally will be competing in the Christmas Special, but she insisted: "Not competing, just taking part." When asked how training was going, the host confessed: "It's hard! I'm really not a dancer so to learn a dance in quite a short space of time is tough."

Sally admitted that while it's difficult, she's having a lot of fun. "Full on?" asked Jon. To which his co-host responded: Yes." She giggled: "I'm not very good."

Jon quickly shut down Sally's claims as he revealed he'd already seen a clip of her dancing, insisting: "You look great!" "No," Sally replied. "I'm not very good. I look like a very tense newsreader and that's fine because that is what I am."

She added: "I'm just going to enjoy it and do my best and try very hard not fall over." Jon touched upon Sally's competition on the show which includes broadcaster Dan Snow, who is partnered with Nadiya Bychkova.

"The lovely Dan Snow who has been amazing," Sally gushed. "It's lovely to go and make friends. But they're quite a lot better than me."

Sally confirmed she was taking part in Strictly as she shared a trio of snaps alongside Graziano on the set. She added the caption: "I was in need of a little pick me up when the lovely people at Strictly called.

"They kindly suggested I might like to learn to dance with @grazianodiprima in time for Christmas." The star continued: "I am definitely not a dancer – but I will try my best.

"And there is no one better to learn with. Join us on our Christmas adventure and I guarantee that we will all have fun along the way." Sally and Dan will be joined by EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick, actress Tillie Amartey, former England rugby star Danny Cipriani and Sugababes member Keisha Buchana.

The Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Christmas Day.
