BBC Strictly’s Dianne Buswell admits to ‘a lot going on’ as fans share concerns

Strictly Come Dancing star Dianne Buswell has opened up on how there has been ‘a lot of going on in her personal life’ recently.

The 34 year old pro dancer was given a pass into the show’s semi-finals with her partner, EastEnders actor Bobby Brazier, on Saturday night after the public vote was cancelled because Nigel Harman had injured a rib in rehearsals – leaving him unable to continue in the competition.

But, despite her and Bobby becoming fan favourites this year, Dianne has faced heartache behind-the-scenes.

She previously broke down in tears on the show in October after her father Mark was diagnosed with cancer. And now Dianne has spoken about the difficulty of not being in her native Australia with her family as her dad goes through chemotherapy – and how her dance partner Bobby, 20, had supported her through the difficult time.

Dianne told Heat Magazine: “I am such a hard-working, crazy dancer that it's been a really nice balance, where Bobby has brought a lot of calmness into my life.

“There has been quite a lot going on in my personal life over these past few months, and Bobby has been really realistic and supportive, telling me everything's going to be OK. It's crazy that such a young guy can have such a good mind on him.”

Bobby lost his mother, Big Brother star Jade Goody, to cervical cancer when he was aged just five. Jade died aged 27 on Mother's Day in March 2009.

Dianne's father Mark, who lives in Australia with her mum Rina, started chemotherapy last month. The Strictly dance star has not specified what cancer her father has, but she shared a photo of him on his first day of the treatment on Instagram.

She wrote: “I’m so proud of you dad. First round of chemotherapy today! I wish I could be there to hold your hand and support you in person but I do know that I’m making you so proud over here in my concert every week.

“The Australian nurses and drs are now very aware of strictly come dancing as my dad won’t stop talking about it you can do this daddy.”

In October Dianne admitted her father was not doing well after she broke down in tears on Strictly. In a Q&A on her YouTube channel, she said: “I thought I would be very upfront and honest with you all. Last week I got some news about my dad's health and I won't go into detail, but obviously that affected me.

“Being away from home and not being able to support and help your family in a time of need is quite a difficult thing so I did struggle a little bit last week in terms of that.”

She added: “There is a little road ahead for my dad but I believe 100% he is going to be fine and we are all going to get through it together.”

Dianne went on: "My dad is the sweetest, kindest man you will ever meet and the one thing he really wants is for me to keep going and to keep dancing my little heart out and doing what I love because that makes him the absolute proudest.

“Regardless if I go home with a glitterball or not I will still go home and have a hot Christmas.”

Dianne and Bobby are set to appear in the Strictly semi-finals on Saturday night along with actor Layton Williams and his partner Nikita Kuzmin, Coronation Street's Ellie Leach and her partner Vito Coppola, and ex tennis star Annabel Croft and her partner Johannes Radebe.
