Coronation Street and Emmerdale ditched from schedules in major shake-up

Fans of both Emmerdale and Coronation Street will have to wait until Monday, September 11, for the next instalment of their favourite soaps, as they have been taken off air this evening (September 8) in a major schedule shake-up.

The ITV soaps have been moved to accommodate the Rugby World Cup match between France and New Zealand.

Instead, viewers were treated to an hour long episode of Coronation Street last night (September 7) and an hour long Emmerdale on Tuesday (September 5), with schedules set to go back to normal next week.

The shake up comes amid dramatic storylines for both soaps, as they gear up for Super Soap Week in October.

Emmerdale director Matt Hilton shared yesterday that filming has already been completed for the epic week, enthusing that they ‘couldn’t have had a better shoot.’

In the lead up to that big week, Emmerdale is set to air some big storylines, including the aftermath of Lydia Dingle’s (Karen Blick) rape at the hands of Craig Reed (Ben Addis).

Elsewhere, Cathy Hope (Gabrielle Dowling) will continue to struggle in the wake of her new diagnosis, while Claudette (Flo Wilson) continues to grieve in the wake of her husband’s death.

Over on the cobbles of Coronation Street, disaster strikes when young Eliza (Savannah Kunyo) is knocked down by a car, leaving Stu (Bill Fellows) in a difficult position with Dom (Darren Morfitt).

Elsewhere, Evelyn (Maureen Lipman) continues to clash with Tyrone (Alan Halsall) over Cassie (Claire Sweeney) while Courtney and Aadi (Stephanie Davis and Adam Hussain) continue their steamy affair.

Though there will be no trips to the Emmerdale Village or Weatherfield tonight, there is still plenty to look forward to next week.

We’re on the edge of our seats!
