Samia walks along the Coronation Street cobbles in the rain
Coronation Street’s longest-running pub the Rovers Return was shut down during Wednesday night’s episode and left viewers feeling emotional.
The Rovers Return has been a staple in Weatherfield for more than 60 years, with some of the biggest storylines playing out in the pub.
However, the familiar interior is now due for a refresh, along with the staff which has left many devastated.
Earlier this week, Jenny Connor (played by Sally-Ann Matthews) was informed that the Rovers would be closed for refurbishment and that their contracts were being terminated with immediate effect.
In Wednesday’s episode, the characters were turfed out as the workmen arrived and they stood outside emotional and crying.

Coronation Street’s official Instagram account shared a clip of the pub being boarded up and said: “The end of an era. Goodbye to the Rovers as we know it,” with a broken heart emoji.
The emotional scenes show Jenny handing over the pub’s keys to builders who began boarding up the windows.
A tearful Jenny walked over to join Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan), Glenda Shuttleworth (Jodie Prenger), and Sean Tully (Antony Cotton) as they looked on at their beloved pub.
Trying to lighten the mood, Sean noted: “They don’t mess about, do they?” as the builders got to work.
