Inside the life of Bobby Brazier from famous parents to Strictly Come Dancing

Bobby Brazier discusses his ‘relationship with God’

Despite only being 20 years old, Bobby Brazier has already had a successful career in modelling and acting.

Bobby is set to join the 2023 cast of Strictly Come Dancing later this month and Express.co.uk has taken a look back through Bobby’s life ahead of his stint.

Famous parents

Bobby isn’t the first in his family to find fame, as both his parents shot to stardom after appearing on reality TV shows.

His mother Jade Goody appeared on Big Brother back in 2002 whilst Jeff Brazier first starred on Shipwrecked.

The pair met that same year and dated for two years, welcoming their sons Bobby and Freddie Brazier, now 18.

When they first split, neither party disclosed why they chose to end their relationship, but Jeff later revealed they both had a lack of trust.

He explained: “Things that were personal to us kept appearing in the papers. [We’d ask] how do they know that?

“We were convinced that [each other] or people around us were selling stories and making money on things that were very contentious for us,

In the Channel 4 documentary Jade Goody: The Reality Star That Changed Britain he added: “Trust disintegrated to nothing. Looking back now it was entirely obvious we were being hacked.”

After their split, Jade often let cameras into her life and had multiple reality shows which included Jade’s salon, and Jade, which included her cancer treatment and wedding to Jack Tweed.

Jade sadly died from cervical cancer in 2009, with Jeff gaining full custody of Bobby and Freddie.

Both boys were already used to the cameras as Jade would often have them featured in her shows.

Jeff decided to take them both away from the spotlight to deal with their grief and later told The Mirror: “They understand fame well enough to know that I made them un-famous! It was quite amusing when Bobby first said that.

“It’s hard for them to quantify the immeasurable difference me keeping them in the magazines and on the TV over the last eight years would have had on their sense of reality and their ability to come to terms with their loss.

“Maybe it would have been fine for us to do so but I wasn’t willing to gamble on their childhoods.”

Bobby has often spoken about missing his mum and admitted that he can’t miss her too much because she has been gone for the majority of his life.

In an interview with The Face, Bobby said: “I miss what could’ve been. I hear all the time she was such a presence, that she was one of a kind.

“What hurts most is that it wasn’t just losing anyone, it was losing Jade. I just would’ve loved to have seen what other people had seen.”

Modelling contract

As Bobby finished school, he went on to work at a milkshake cafe and reaped the benefits of having indulgent freebies.

He finally made his return to the spotlight at 16 when he was scouted by Cesar Perin, in a very unusual way.

Sharing the story on Instagram he said: “Jokes story. I was in trouble at school and had to go in for a meeting.

“So before I go, I go Costa for a little prep talk with my dad and when we leave @cesarperin is chasing me down the street asking me if I’m a model.”

After that he was signed to the agency Unsigned Group and modelled for big designer brands including Dolce & Gabbana at Milan Fashion Week, and Tommy Hilfiger.

He has also found himself on the cover of the acclaimed style magazine, Man About Town, and giving an insight into his glamourous life on Instagram to his 177k followers.

Becoming a BBC soap star

Last year he made the jump from modelling to acting when he took over the role of Freddie Slater in EastEnders.

Freddie is the son of Little Mo Slater (played by Kacey Ainsworth), and currently resides with Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner), and Lily Slater (Lillia Turner) and has a close relationship with Alfie Moon (Shane Richie).

Bobby was announced to be joining the BBC soap back in July 2022 when he said: “I’m really excited to be joining the cast of EastEnders – so far it’s been perfect.

“Everybody has been so beautiful to me and made settling in easier than I could’ve hoped. Stepping into the acting world has always been a vision of mine and doing that with EastEnders as a Slater is a blessing, I’m very grateful.

“Loving every minute of Freddie so far and can’t wait to see what’s in store for him in Walford.”

Despite only being on the soap for a year, Bobby has already had some heartfelt moments when he found out that his mum had fallen pregnant with him after being raped by Graham Foster (Alex McSweeney).

Devastated Freddie took himself off to clear his head, and after a heart-to-heart with Gina Knight (Francesca Henry), decided to cut his dad out of his life for good.

Bobby has since been nominated for a Rising Star Award at the National Television Awards (NTAs).

Alongside his heartfelt storylines, Bobby recently revealed what his “proudest” moment is on the show.

On his Instagram story, he showed a clip of him dancing in the background with his fellow co-stars.

Strictly Come Dancing

In the next couple of weeks, Bobby will take to the Strictly Come Dancing dancefloor and compete for a chance to win the Glitterball Trophy.

When first announced, Bobby said: “I’m so excited to be part of the Strictly line-up, I can’t wait to start training like a professional dancer and adding a few moves to my locker.

“I’m looking forward to performing in front of everyone, it’s going to be so much fun!”

Bobby is also currently the youngest person to have signed up for the season, with many fans wondering who he will be paired with.

Strictly Come Dancing returns September on ITV.
