Joanna Lumley reflects on her role in Coronation Street
Coronation Street’s Bernie Winter (played by Jane Hazlegrove) is set for a Christmas away from her family as she is given a custodial sentence.
In recent scenes, Bernie was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods after she was caught being handed money by Big Garth (Victor McGuire).
After trying to fight the charges, Bernie was later called back into the police station to be told they had enough evidence and she would need to go to court.
In upcoming scenes, Bernie breaks the news to Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) and Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell) that she’s up in court for handling stolen goods.
On Joel Deering’s (Callul Lill) advice, Bernie pleads guilty and stands emotional in the courtroom.

Paul, Gemma and Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) reel in shock as the Judge states that given her record, they have no other option but to impose a custodial sentence.
Paul’s devastated and begs the judge to reconsider, telling her about his MND and how he needs his Mum.
Will Bernie be in prison for Paul’s last Christmas? Is there any way for the family to get her out of the trouble?
Will Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) stick by Bernie if she is sent to prison or is this the end of the road for their relationship?
Coronation Street boss Iain MacLeod recently discussed what is to come for the Winter/Brown family and admitted Bernie will cause a lot of upset.

Speaking to Express.co.uk and other press, he said: “The Christmas catastrophe arrives from Bernie when she is involved with Shelly’s slightly dubious online scamming.
“It puts her in a massive amount of legal hot water to the extent that there is every likelihood that she is not going to be present for what will be Paul’s last Christmas.
“It is classic Winter/Brown schemes and scamming and Bernie is very much being Bernie through it all and overlaid with this knowledge.
“They don’t talk about it a lot but it is overlaid with his tragic last Christmas news and that the family might not actually be together for this one last festive moment.
“What we have tried to do is make it realistic and bittersweet as much as we could and fitting funny, but fairly poignant last Christmas for Paul.”
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
