Samia walks along the Coronation Street cobbles in the rain
Coronation Street producer Ian MacLeod has teased some “exciting” and “gasp-inducing” surprises are on the way for ITV viewers as Super Soap Week kicks off and Stephen Reid’s (played by Todd Boyce) downfall begins.
In upcoming scenes, the residents of Weatherfield are shocked when they realise they have a murderer in their midst.
The hunt is on to find Stephen before he can add to his death toll, with Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) and Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) desperate to bring him down – but are they too late?
Corrie boss Iain recently spoke to Express.co.uk and other press on the exciting week ahead and teased at how tense some viewers will find the scenes.
He explained: “It is so full of twists and the week as a whole, you just don’t know which way to turn, it is incredibly exciting.

“The performances are great, the director David Kester has done a brilliant job, and the lighting team have done a brilliant job of making it look special and cinematic whilst making it feel very Coronation Street.
“I think it is full of surprises and I think things will happen as we enjoy the ride of Stephen trying to get away with his crimes.
“You think ‘There is no way I was seeing this coming’ and it is full of gasp-inducing shocks and surprises.”
Iain also discussed why he felt it was important for the majority of the street to come together to catch Stephen and said his actions have had a “ripple” effect on the community.

He noted: “What a soap does best is getting the whole community involved, it is not just as simple as ‘Stephen has done some bad stuff’
“It has ripple effects across the whole street and that’s just a lot more fun to watch isn’t it really otherwise it doesn’t feel like a soap anymore.
“We wanted to explore all the different people he has impacted from Carla, to Peter, to Audrey, indirectly to Sarah who has trusted this guy.
“Michael who has also been mentored by him and yeah he has just had this far-reaching impact on all these characters as we just love the idea of all these chickens coming home to roost.
“Stephen was the golden boy of the wider Platt slash Roberts family, he came in and everyone couldn’t see at first but he was the most desperate man on the street and was operating in plain sight.”
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
