Coronation Street legend Sue Nicholls has left fans stunned after hearing her real accent – and it sounds nothing like where she’s from.
The soap veteran has played Audrey Roberts on the iconic cobbles for 44 years – making her debut back in 1979. Since then, she’s become a firm favourite and a staple on the programme.
Over the years, viewers have been through heartbreak and joy with Audrey, including her marriage to Alf Roberts in 1985 and his tragic death in 1999. And in the soap at the moment, Audrey is reeling over the death of son and serial killer Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce).

Fans will recall how Stephen was mowed down during Super Soap Week by Peter Barlow before he tried to make an escape. And in episodes this week his mum Audrey has uncovered his secret journal.
Prior to her Corrie stint, where she starred alongside future husband Mark Eden, the actress had a secret singing career. Sue also gained her first soap role in another iconic northern show Crossroads.
But fans will be shocked to find out that Sue is not actually from Manchester or the North. Instead, she was born in Darlaston, West Midlands.
And leaving fans even more confused, her real accent sounds nothing like a Yam Yam. This is a term used to describe those from the Black Country in the West Midlands.
Playing Audrey on Corrie, Sue relies on her acting skills and uses a northern accent. In real life though, she speaks with a much more pronounced accent, albeit posh. And fans have been left stunned whenever they hear Sue’s real accent.
