GMB: Dermot O’Leary reveals he turned down Strictly
This Morning presenter Dermot O’Leary appeared on ITV a bit earlier than usual today as he visited the Good Morning Britain team.
Even though he was there to discuss his new children’s book, Wings Of Glory, the conversation soon moved onto a show that Dermot has yet to appear on.
Good Morning Britain co-host Ben Shephard put Dermot on the spot by asking: “The call for Strictly, does it come in every year?”
Dermot quickly replied: “No, never,” before changing his answer to “It’s come in once.”
This led Ben to query when Dermot had been approached to appear on the beloved BBC dancing reality show. “Once, when was that? This year?”

Fans of Strictly Come Dancing will be interested to hear that “It was a couple of years ago” that Dermot was asked.
The former X Factor judge recalled: “I took lunch with them because a few of my mates work on the show, who I respect greatly and I think they’re brilliant.”
While Ben quipped: “So you let them buy you lunch and then said no?”
“I offered,” Dermot laughed. “I love the show but I just don’t want to do it.”

Given that Dermot has been seen showing off his dance moves while recording his BBC Radio 2 show, with the presenter sharing several clips to his Instagram, it’s not surprising that many have wondered if he would ever take to the famous dancefloor.
But it looks as though the presenter and author won’t be debuting his dancing in front of judges Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton du Beke anytime soon.
Strictly fans don’t have long to wait until the first of the upcoming live shows, which start back this Saturday night.
Half of this year’s batch of celebrities and their professional partners will dance this weekend, while the second half will make their dancing debuts the following Saturday.
After all fifteen couples have performed, the Sunday night results shows will also return.
It has been confirmed that the celebrities will dance a mixture of ballroom and Latin dances. Viewers can look forward to bookies favourite EastEnders’ Bobby Brazier taking on a Foxtrot, while Angela Rippon is set to get the party started with a Cha Cha to Shirely Bassey’s song of the same name.
Actor Layton Williams will Samba to Touch by Little Mix and Les Dennis will Tango to Don’t You Want Me by the Human League.
Fans will need to tune in to see how this year’s celebrities get on following their first week of training.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV. And Strictly Come Dancing airs Saturday nights on BBC.
