I’m A Celeb’s Nigel Farage hints at new career after host’s ‘shameful’ dig

Controversial politician and broadcaster Nigel Farage has hinted towards a return to politics in his first interview after leaving the I'm A Celebrity jungle.

Farage, 59, managed to reach the final of the ITV reality show down under. On Sunday night (December 10), he was confirmed to have finished in third place, behind professional boxer Tony Bellew and Made in Chelsea star Sam Thompson.

Nigel's inclusion on the show was in itself a hot topic, with many viewers seeking to boycott the show after he was announced to be taking part. He was also rumoured to have received the highest appearance fee of all time, suspected of earning a cool £1.5million for his time in Australia.

After leaving the jungle, Nigel joined Susanna Reid and Ed Balls on Good Morning Britain (December 11) to reflect on his jungle experience. Walking across the bridge to his girlfriend, Susanna had asked him what happened when the cameras were off – to which, the former UKIP leader said he had an alcoholic drink and a shower.

Attention then turned to his time on the show, where he admitted that he had learned a lot about himself. Balls jokingly went on to compare Nigel's experience to that of previous campmate Matt Hancock, who also finished third in last year's edition.

"How does it feel to be in the same calibre as Matt Hancock, being an ex-Conservative politician who finished third on I'm A Celebrity?" Ed quipped. Nigel, however, shot back saying that he did not want to be compared to Hancock, who he said "caused irreparable damage" to the country during the pandemic and lockdowns.

During the course of the interview, Reid and Balls steered away from the ITV show and instead focused on Nigel's potential return to the political spectrum. On the topic of migration, Ed and Nigel clashed as they took brutal swipes on each other's viewpoints.

Balls, a former Labour politician, then made a jibe at Farage's inability to enter Parliament, after he lost in seven general elections. Nigel then retorted with a comment that left Ed stunned, leading to the host to sarcastically remark: "It's shameful of me, how dare I say you'd lost seven elections?"

Farage quickly shot back: "If you poke my back, I'll poke yours." As well as this, the GB News host would later be challenged on whether he would go back into politics as a member of the Tory party in the hopes of entering Parliament.

Diplomatically answering the question, Farage quipped: "I am looking at a Conservative government that is in total shambles, facing tomorrow effectively a confidence vote on an issues that affects every single living human being in this country, namely immigration. Rishi is a lame duck walking, the Conservative party is heading for total defeat.

"As to whether I have a future in politics, I have no idea at this moment in time," he continued. However, Susanna and Ed were quick to pick up on his language and pressed Nigel on whether he would return if there was different leadership, to which Nigel seemingly agreed – leaving both presenters stunned.

Good Morning Britain airs every weekday at 6am on ITV1 and ITVX.
