Loose Womens Brenda Edwards fights tears as she reflects on mum guilt

Loose Women: Brenda Edwards speaks about ‘mum guilt’

Brenda Edwards appeared close to tears on Wednesday’s Loose Women as she reflected on how she wishes she could “go back” to her children’s school days.

It came as the panel were discussing school parents and the pressure placed on some to appear the perfect mother at the school gates.

As several of the ITV hosts shared their own anecdotes, Brenda watched on silently before admitting she felt a lot of “mum guilt”.

“You know, this is where the mother guilt comes in,” the 54-year-old commented.

“Because from when Jamal and Tanisha were born… I’ve always been working, I’ve permanently been working.

“And for me it was breakfast club because I had to be at work for 9 o’clock so I had to drop them off by 8 o’clock to breakfast club so I didn’t get to see anybody at the gates or wave goodbye or pick them up after school.

“So you know, the mum guilt for me is real in that way.

“I kind of wish I had some kind of competitive ‘look at my hair today,’ or whatever, but I feel very…”

“Yeah, but you were working, you were paying the bills,” Jane Moore cut in.

“Yeah, but when I listen to you guys, that’s something that I wish I could get back with my kids,” Brenda replied, looking emotional.

“But didn’t you say you took them to breakfast club?” Frankie Bridge asked, adding: “So you’re still dropping them at school.”

“No, but that’s like, ‘there’s your breakfast, there’s your money for that,’ it’s different to having a, ‘Hi, what’s your name and what class is your child?’ I haven’t ever, ever had that.”

“But maybe your amazing children are so grateful for how hard you worked,” Judi Love added as the audience applauded.

“They know how hard you worked and there’s many mums and dads out there that will connect with what you’re saying,” Judi continued.

“I wish I’d been able to go and see their plays and football… I just never,” the presenter added sadly.

“But it’s not like you were sitting at home with your feet up, you were paying bills for them,” Jane pointed out.

Frankie went on to explain both her parents worked so she was often dropped off before school.

Loose Women airs weekdays from 12.30pm on ITV.
