Married At First Sight UK contestant Laura has revealed that she had more reason than most for the nerves to hit her when she walked down the aisle and saw her husband for the first time.
The 34-year-old finance manager from Hampshire is the only contestant on this year’s series to have been married before. This led to a scary moment when she arrived for her TV wedding ceremony.
“I had been this cool cucumber until I was standing at the aisle,” she reveals. “Also, being in a wedding dress brought back a lot of memories – and from the back, my new husband looked my like ex-husband so I thought it was my ex for a second!”

Luckily, it wasn’t her one-time hubby, but it’s hardly surprising that she may have been mistaken. She asked the show for “a Chelsea boy with an edge”, and having romanced one of the Made In Chelsea stars in the past, it’s clear she knows what her type is – and that she needs those boys to pay their own way,
“I have dated someone on Made in Chelsea before, so that kind of person is for me, she states. “I don’t want to be looking after anyone financially. I also don’t want kids.”
After her marriage broke up during lockdown, Laura that that MAFS was the perfect opportunity for her to meet someone new.
“I needed to outsource my romantic decisions – so MAFS came at the right time!” she laughs.
“Doing it this way meant I didn’t have to go on 100 dud dates so I would 100 percent do it again – but be prepared to face some things. As someone who is fiercely stoic, I cried 34 year’s worth of tears on this show. I had to invest in waterproof mascara!”
Indeed, it seems this series of the show is not without its ups and down, with all of the contestants citing the dinner parties as particularly explosive.
"It’s probably the most dramatic series of MAFS UK by a country mile,” Laura reveals. “ The cast being younger this year meant that we either got on well or fell out really badly – and it meant we’re more at risk of fancying each other’s matches.
While she’s staying tight-lipped on the outcome of her own match, Laura did admit on entering the show. ”I have my fingers firmly crossed for a positive outcome – I don’t want another divorce!”.
E4 announced the Married at First Sight UK line-up for this year last month, with Laura joining transgender bride Ella, single mum Porscha and five other marriage hopefuls on the show.
Find out how Laura’s marriage plays out on Married at First Sight on Monday 18th September at 9pm on E4.
