All Saints' Mel Blatt is taking part in Celebrity Race Across the World and her mum Helene is coming along for the ride. In fact, the pair will spend every minute of the day together for a whole month.
However, the singer has revealed that she's used to being with her mum all the time as the mother-daughter pair are neighbours!
Speaking about filming the show, the 48-year-old singer said that the TV challenge marked "new territory" for her relationship with Helene.
"Spending a month together – I mean, we've lived next door to each other for the last 10 years and before that we've always been in each other's pockets," she said.
"So spending a month with my mum wasn't as joyful as everybody else because we've been doing that our entire lives!"
The All Saints star is competing against Good Morning Britain’s Alex Beresford, McFly’s Harry Judd and racing driver and pundit Billy Monger as they race from Morocco to Norway with their chosen relatives in tow for the BBC spin-off series.
The celebs, who've each brought a family member along for the journey as their plus one, will be travelling across 10,000 kilometres in the hopes of being the first pair to reach Tromso, the Arctic capital.
Mel revealed that one of the biggest challenges of the trip for her was cost-cutting, with each celebrity having to reach Norway without the use of air travel using a budget that's the equivalent of a plane ticket.
"I thought we were doing very well with budgeting but we actually weren’t at all,” she said. “My idea of budgeting was, ‘I get a pizza, you get a bowl of pasta, we’ll have half each.’ A lot of money was spent on food – and taxis.”
The singer rose to fame as a member of All Saints, winning two BRIT Awards and seeing five singles topping the charts throughout the 90's.
After the group split in 2001, Mel embarked on a solo music career and started TV presenting, appearing on The Hot Desk and The X Factor New Zealand.
Mel took part in Celebrity MasterChef last year, making it to the final before being beaten to the trophy by Lisa Snowdon.
In July, the BBC announced that she would be taking part in Celebrity Race Across the World with her mum Helene.
Celebrity Race Across the World airs from Wednesday 13th September at 9pm on BBC One.
