Phillip Schofield returns to This Morning as fans say someone is in trouble

Phillip Schofield has made a 'return' – of sorts – to This Morning.

The presenter was on the ITV programme for many years but stepped down a few months ago amid a scandal that saw him admitting to an “unwise but not illegal” affair with a much younger male colleague. But he was shown on Monday's (30 October) instalment of the programme in a segment paying tribute to late Friends actor Matthew Perry.

Hosts Josie Gibson and Rylan Clark were remembering the star, who died at the weekend in an apparent drowning at the age of 54. And a clip of Matthew when he was on the sofa chatting to then host Phil was played. It showed the former presenter sat along his hosting partner Holly Willoughby, who has now also left the show.

Several viewers remarked on the moment on social media after it aired. "Ooo a quick clip of Phil there," said one person on X, which used to be Twitter.

"Crikey, Halloween Special, Phil and Holly back on the This Morning sofa," quipped someone else. "Wow… they actually went ahead and showed a clip of Phillip Schofield interviewing the late, great Matthew Perry," said another surprised fan.

And another person wrote: "They showed a clip with Philip Schofield interviewing Matthew Perry. "Someone is going to be in trouble," they teased.

Phil and Holly, 42, were close friends and hosted This Morning together for many years. But in May, Phillip left amid his affair scandal.

The 61-year-old has been keeping a low profile ever since then although he did give a couple of interviews. He told the BBC that he felt he had “lost everything” as a result of what happened.

Holly carried on presenting the daytime programme without Phillip, with a rotating carousel of stars standing in to host alongside her. However, earlier this month she told fans that she was leaving the show after 14 years after a man was charged in relation to an alleged plot to kidnap and murder her.
