Sarah Beeny gives marriage update after ‘hanging on by fingernails’ comment

Sarah Beeny discusses her marriage

After previously admitting her marriage to husband Graham Swift was “hanging on by fingernails” while she battled breast cancer, Sarah Beeny has shared a relationship update. The 51-year-old appeared on Tuesday’s instalment of Lorraine to speak about her new book The Simple Life: How I Found Home and clarified the comments she earlier made regarding her marriage.

She explained: “I did a podcast with someone and I told a funny joke, which I thought was a funny joke about marriage.” The property expert insisted that her “hanging on by fingernails” remark was a joke and she didn’t mean anything by it.

However, she did take the time to admit that relationships aren’t easy but she’s fortunate to have a supportive family by her side. She continued: “I’m not going to say it’s easy, because obviously it isn’t easy, but I think I’m very lucky that I’ve got a husband and kids who are so supportive.”

The television personality revealed she had been diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2022 and was seeking treatment for the life-altering illness. She underwent radiotherapy and chemotherapy, as well as a mastectomy to battle the cancer cells inside her body.

Sarah shared the great news that she was cancer-free and given the all-clear in April this year.

In October, the mum-of-four opened up about her cancer battle and said she was “particularly horrible” while she endured treatment, leading to a strain on her relationship with Graham.

Speaking at the time on The Mid-Point podcast with host Gabby Logan, she divulged: “We’re hanging on in there by our fingernails. I mean, it’s not easy is it? Graham always said, ‘the day we have to work on our marriage, I’m going to leave’. And I was like, ‘really?’ But I think he has had to work at it to be honest.

“I was particularly horrible, because I have been a bit horrible in the last couple of years to be honest at times.”

The couple met when she was 18 after the pair were set up on a blind date by pals, they went on to tie the knot in September 2002. The two are parents to four sons, Billy, 19, Charlie, 17, Rafferty, 15, and 13-year-old Laurie.
